Amazon Sellers Struggle Amidst Global Warehouse Overload and Logistics Disruptions

Amazon sellers are currently facing significant challenges that are severely impacting their operations. Initially, they were burdened by inventory restrictions, address verification issues, and stringent measures against top sellers and reviews. Now, the situation has been exacerbated by unexpected logistical disruptions. Sellers have reported that Amazon’s U.S. warehouses are overwhelmed, resulting in a considerable slowdown in product listing times. Unfortunately, this issue is not confined to the U.S.; European warehouses are also experiencing significant strain. Additionally, China Airlines has recently canceled the second leg of its U.S. route due to a crew outbreak, leading to widespread flight suspensions.

The global logistics landscape is currently marred by limited shipping capacity and a shortage of containers. This has led to severe congestion at warehouses and ports in Europe and the United States. For example, a freight forwarder reported on WeChat Moments that the FTW1 warehouse in the U.S. is severely overloaded, with delivery trucks lined up on the highway. The wait times for unloading have increased, with some appointments being pushed back by up to a week. Sellers relying on the FTW1 warehouse should prepare for these delays and consider alternative strategies.

In Canada, the situation is particularly dire. Many warehouses have been closed and quarantined due to the pandemic, with no signs of products being restocked. Similarly, Amazon’s French warehouses are under significant strain, making deliveries more challenging and costly. Freight forwarders have raised prices for certain postal codes, reflecting the increased difficulty of fulfilling orders in these regions.

In the UK, sellers have received notices from freight forwarders indicating that the DPD warehouse is also experiencing severe overload due to Amazon’s warehouse scheduling. Tens of thousands of Amazon packages are stuck in the warehouse, unable to be delivered, resulting in sluggish product listing rates. DPD has now reduced its pickup services due to a shortage of vehicles, which is likely to cause further delays in customs clearance, pickup, and delivery for goods headed to the UK.

Some sellers have reported that their goods, airlifted from the UK, have been in transit for over 20 days without being stocked in warehouses. The third wave of the pandemic in Europe, combined with shipping blockages, Easter holidays, and strikes, has further disrupted the already strained logistics network.
